Less Than Container Load (LCL)

Less Than Container Load (LCL) is a shipping method where multiple shippers’ goods are consolidated into one container, allowing each to share space and cost based on the volume or weight of their individual shipments.
LCL shipping is ideal for smaller shipments that do not require a full container. This method enables cost-effective transportation by combining various shipments into a single container, with each shipper paying only for the space their cargo occupies. The process involves the consolidation of goods at a Container Freight Station (CFS) and subsequent deconsolidation at the destination. While LCL can be more economical than Full Container Load (FCL) for small volumes, it may involve longer transit times and additional handling, as the container needs to be filled to capacity and goods from multiple shippers are managed. Effective use of LCL can optimize shipping costs, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises, and ensures flexibility in inventory management.
